Basic Shapes of Impact Extruded Parts

As mentioned before, impact extruded parts can be manufactured by the basic forms of forward and backward extrusion, both subdivided into hollow and massive parts.

The following figures illustrate some common shapes formed by impact extrusion.

Backward hollow impact extrusion.

The can shown in figure 5 is the most widely known impact extrusion part. Of course, there are various shapes of cans, even if not occurring as often as the standard. As long as cans are n-sided symmetrical, they can be easily extruded.

Backward solid impact extrusion

Rarely used as a single process, but more often in combination with forward hollow impact extrusion..

Forward hollow impact extrusion.

This is a preferred process for producing cylinders with a flange.

Forward solid impact extrusion

This process can be used for the production of flanged shafts or contact pins for electronic components, such as capacitors.

The combination of the processes mentioned before allows the production of a variety of shapes, with or without external/internal shafts, with flanges or horizontal/vertical intermediate walls.
